New Jersey Parent Letter To Obama For The Campaign For Our Public Schools

Deborah Cornavaca and I have written a joint letter for Diane Ravitch's Campaign for Our Public Schools.   Deborah is another tireless parent advocate who has dedicated herself to defending public education in our state.

Diane's campaign provided the perfect opportunity for Deborah and me to let the President know how his administration's policies are effecting public schools in New Jersey.

We invite you to join us in this campaign.  If our letter resonates with you, comment below and I will be happy to add your name to the letter, or feel free to download it below and send it as your own.

If you are feeling inspired, you can write a letter too!  If you do, please share it in the comments below, or email it to me, (darciecimarusti@gmail.com) I would love to read it!  I would also be happy to send it on for you, just let me know.

All letters will be sent to the President tomorrow, October 17th and Diane also asks us to:
write to your Senators and Congressman or -woman and to your state legislator and Governor. Send the same letter to them all.
Full instructions for sending letters to the President are provided in the link above.  You can find your state Senator and Assemblyman or -woman's contact information here. Governor Christie and your US Senator and Representative's contact information can be found here.

This is not about whether you support or will vote for President Obama.  This is about parents, teachers and other concerned citizens around the country trying to give our President and legislators a wake up call.  As usual, Diane said it best:
Let’s raise our voices NOW against privatization, against high-stakes testing, against teacher bashing, against profiteering.
Let’s advocate for policies that are good for students, that truly improve education, that respect the education profession, and that strengthen our democratic system of public education.
Please join the campaign!

  1. I am deeply disappointed that President Obama and Education Secretary Arne Duncan are creating policies that reward teaching to the test, withdraw support for public schools and teachers and help the movement to privatize public education. An over reliance on standardized testing to categorize our public schools is draining our classrooms of creativity and playing straight into the hands of those who seek to redirect public funds for education into private pockets. 2. As a concerned parent and as a citizen who ardently believes that a free, quality education is a cornerstone of a democratic society, I wish to add my name to this letter and my voice to this strong chorus! Melanie McDermott, Highland Park, NJ
