Since I last wrote about the DFER money filling the coffers of the Jeffries campaign, more reports have been filed with the Election Law Enforcement Commission (ELEC).
And wow. Just wow.
Education Reform Now's total, as of May 9th, stands at over 3 MILLION DOLLARS!
And look who dropped in close to half a million, just 4 days before election day.

But tonight proved that their money was unable to buy the hearts and minds of the people of Newark.

And this is a tremendous win for public education advocates, and they are rejoicing all over the country.

I will sleep a whole lot better tonight, secure in the knowledge that the tides may just be turning on this ed reform nonsense. After all, these are business men, and they don't like to lose money. They threw a lot into the kitty, and they've got nothing to show for it.Well done, Newark. Well done indeed.
Being that the Democrats support the profit system, which regulates the Democrats rather than the other way around, Baraka only becomes one more politician who rations the education system for the working class (witness Obama, Cuomo, and now de Blasio’s contracts). Now Karen Lewis has offered to negotiate cuts in teachers pensions (http://www.wsws.org/en/articles/2014/05/13/ctup-m13.html). . Workers need to unite in an independent struggle for socialism.
ReplyDeleteStarting to come around on this liberation of communities idea, using the schools as a broad based rallying cry. It might even work, but I still think we can muddle through in Highland Park without believing we are part of this grander fight... :)
